Employer of Record Australia is an independent information website about hiring across borders. We explain how Employers of Record work, how they compare with the alternatives and how employment rules differ between Australia and the countries Australian businesses deal with most.

Why this site exists

Most information about Employers of Record is written by companies that sell EOR services. Much of it is useful, but it is rarely neutral, and it is often generic across 150 countries. We wanted a resource that does two things well:

  1. Explains the EOR model honestly, including when it is the wrong choice.
  2. Covers Australia in depth, in both directions: overseas businesses hiring in Australia and Australian businesses hiring overseas.

Our editorial principles

  • Official sources first. Every legal, tax, wage or contribution figure comes from an official government source, such as the Fair Work Ombudsman, the Australian Taxation Office, the Department of Home Affairs or the equivalent body in another country. Sources are listed on every page.
  • Dated and reviewed. Every guide shows a "Last reviewed" date. We review pages at least twice a year and after major changes such as the annual wage review.
  • No unverified figures. If we can't confirm a figure from an official source, we don't publish it. We keep an internal list of items awaiting verification.
  • Neutral. We don't recommend, rank or criticise EOR providers, and we don't accept payment for coverage.
  • Plain English. We write in Australian English for business owners, founders and HR teams, not lawyers.

What we are not

We are not a law firm, tax agent, migration agent or EOR provider. The information on this site is general and doesn't take your circumstances into account. Before making decisions about a specific hire, get advice from a qualified professional. Read our disclaimer.

Corrections and suggestions

Employment law changes often and we want to get it right. If you spot something out of date, or want us to cover another country, please contact us with a link to the official source.
